School Highlights

One of the benefits of being an alternative education program is that we are able to provide our student population with a wide variety of exciting programs and valuable resources that are not typically offered in more traditional settings. Please take a few moments to explore these various areas and how they serve to enhance the overall educational experience.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

The Young Men’s Academy is a proud member and model school for the Florida Positive Behavior Support project, which is also known as P.B.S. By focusing on positive rather than negative reinforcement, our Tiger team is dedicated to helping students make the kind of choices that will lead to success.

Here is how it works:

· Every student is given an opportunity to earn up to five (5) PBS points for each class that they attend by simply meeting a particular set of behavioral expectations.

· Each teacher records the total number of points earned for every student daily and at the end of the week, students are issued point sheets that reflect the total number of points earned for that week.

· Those students who have earned a minimum of 80% of the total possible PBS points are granted access to a weekly PBS activity, wherein they are rewarded for their successful behavior.

· PBS data collected over the last few years has indicated that students who consistently earn their PBS points are more likely to find academic success than those who don’t participate regularly in the program.

Service Learning

Service learning and the world of opportunities that it opens up is a large part of what helps The Young Men’s Academy stand out as an educational institution that strives to shine a ray of hope on both the students that we serve and the communities in which we live.

As we settle into our new Naranja location, we are looking forward to developing new connections within the community and seeking new opportunities to continue the important work that our students do through service learning.

Stay tuned to learn more about the types of service learning projects that we are working on this year.
